San Diego Senior provides 'Regulations' to help seniors stay in their homes longer. We hope to raise public awareness, promote independence, and give all San Diego Seniors access to information and services that will improve the quality of their lives.
San Diego Senior has researched the legal requirements for non-medical senior care. California does not require any licensing for "third-party contractors retained by a resident" and does not have any provisions requiring unskilled or skilled senior care givers to submit to a criminal background check.
However, CAL. HSC. CODE § 1569.17 : California Code - Section 1569.17, does require a "residential facility for the elderly" to obtain a current criminal history clearance on all senior care staff..
Although as mentioned, one of the exemptions to this regulation are "third-party contractors retained by a resident", which are often non-medical caregivers. This code also emphasizes that licensees are not prohibited from requiring criminal background checks for all exempt individuals who
have contact with facility residents.
One company that does require background checks on non-medical care givers is San Diego Senior Care.
